Last time we talked (mostly) to Heather Tinkham about her background in business, analysis, and how best to go about improving the state of the practice of software.  This week we’ll play the second half of the interview, where I talk to Andy about the differences in craft and though between testers and test automators, along with his use of Selenium and his time at Microsoft.

During the interview I did make one rather large flop – I attributed a quote about creating criminals to Thomas Paine; in fact, it came from Sir Thomas More in his book Utopia.

Matt Heusser had my wife and I on TWiST (This Week in Software Testing, sponsored by Software Test Professionals). This is the first of 2 parts to that interview. Here’s Matt’s description (from 2011):

I’ve known Andy and Heather Tinkham for years, but I’m afraid I can’t say that I knew them well.

We decided to use the podcast to change that.

A married couple based out of Minneapolis, Andy specializes in writing code to help evaluate systems.  He bounced around the country a bit, studying software testing at Florida Tech before working for Microsoft and, eventually, ending up at Healthland Information Technology.  while Heather is more on the analysis and human factors side of the business.

During the podcast we talk about the state of IT education, the value of an MBA, and diverse approaches to the problem of testing.  I think you’ll like this first interview of two with Heather and Andy.  If you do enjoy it, and can’t wait ’till next week, you can always follow Andy on twitter.
